Suez Water Is Flushing Fire Hydrants in Bayonne

Posted May 27, 2021

The Bayonne Department of Municipal Services advised residents that Suez Water, the contract operator of the Bayonne water system, is flushing the fire hydrants and exercising valves throughout the community during the spring and summer months.  Municipal Services Director Tim Boyle said, “This is the annual method by which we ensure the health and well-being of our fire hydrant system.  It is essential to having a healthy firefighting system in place for our Fire Department to help keep us all safe. We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this hydrant maintenance program.”

This annual hydrant program may cause a temporary discoloration of the water.  If discoloration occurs, please run your tap till the water runs clear.  The water should clear in a few minutes.  The water will be safe to drink.  There is no need to boil the water.
