Port Authority Bridges, Tunnels & Rail Advisory: Lane Closings Planned at George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel & Outerbridge Crossing

Face Coverings Required in All Port Authority Facilities, Including Airports, Midtown Bus Terminal and on AirTrain
Lanes will be closed this week at the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel and Outerbridge Crossing.
As a reminder for any passengers or motorists traveling through Port Authority facilities, some restrictions and service changes remain in place to protect the health and safety of employees and the public. Face coverings are required for anyone using Port Authority facilities, including PATH trains and stations; the World Trade Center transportation hub; the Midtown Bus Terminal and George Washington Bridge Bus Station; the Port Authority’s airports and on AirTrain.
Domestic travelers entering New York or New Jersey are asked to take a traveler survey, self-quarantine or obtain a COVID-19 diagnostic test, depending on the state and travel circumstances. Updated guidance for travelers is available here for New York and New Jersey.
For international travelers, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) require a negative COVID-19 test for anyone entering the U.S. from abroad. Prior to departure, international travelers must be tested, and in line with the CDC recommendations, should be tested again 3 to 5 days after arrival in the U.S. and plan to self-isolate for 7 days at their final destination.
International travelers who are fully vaccinated should follow quarantine guidelines according to the requirements of the local jurisdiction. Travelers should contact their airline or visit the CDC website for details. George Washington Bridge:
- A ramp to the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway near the George Washington Bridge will remain closed for repairs to a retaining wall. Eastbound motorists exiting at Riverside Drive or heading to the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway are advised to take the upper level of the bridge. Access to the southbound Henry Hudson Parkway remains unaffected. Westbound motorists are encouraged to exit at 181st Street off the bridge’s lower level for the Henry Hudson Parkway or Riverside Drive.
- From 10 p.m. Friday, May 14, to 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15, all eastbound lanes on the lower level will be closed.
- From 10 p.m. Friday, May 14, to 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15, three eastbound lanes of the lower level Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed. Bronx-bound motorists can use the Washington Bridge.
- From 10 p.m. Friday, May 14, to 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15, two westbound lanes on the upper level will be closed.
- From 10 p.m. Friday, May 14, to 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15, one westbound lane of the lower level will be closed.
- From 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 14, to 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15, the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway ramp to lower level eastbound lanes will be closed. Bronx-bound motorists can use the Washington Bridge.
- From 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 14, to 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15, all westbound lanes to the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway will be closed. Northbound motorists should use Exit 73 for Center Avenue or Hudson Terrace.
- On Saturday, May 15, from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., one lane of the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway to the westbound lanes on the upper level will be closed.
- On Saturday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., one westbound lane to the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway will be closed.
- On Saturday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., one lane of the northbound Henry Hudson Parkway ramp to westbound lanes on the lower level will be closed.
- From 11:59 p.m. Saturday, May 15, to 8 a.m. Sunday, May 16, all lanes on the lower level will be closed in both directions. Motorists should use the upper level.
Holland Tunnel:
- Due to ongoing Superstorm Sandy-related repairs, the New York-bound tube of the Holland Tunnel will be closed on Monday, May 17, from 11 p.m. through 5 a.m. the following morning, and on multiple overnights each week through spring 2022. - At all hours from Friday, May 14, through Thursday, May 20, the right turn lane from Hudson Street onto Canal Street in Manhattan will be closed.
- On Friday, May 14, and from Monday, May 17, through Thursday, May 20, from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, multiple lanes will be closed on Hudson Street approaching Canal Street in Manhattan.
- From 11 p.m. Sunday, May 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 17, one eastbound lane will be closed.
- From Sunday, May 16, to Thursday, May 20, from 11:59 p.m. each night through 5:30 a.m. the following morning, one westbound lane will be closed.
Outerbridge Crossing:
- From 10 p.m. Friday, May 14, to 5 a.m. Saturday, May 15, one westbound lane and one eastbound lane will be closed.
- From 10 p.m. Thursday, May 20, to 5 a.m. Friday, May 21, one westbound lane will be closed.
Newark Liberty International Airport
- From 8 p.m. Saturday, May 15, to 7 a.m. Sunday, May 16, AirTrain Newark will be suspended for routine maintenance. Free shuttle buses provide service between Newark Airport Station (Rail Link), terminals A, B, C, and stations P3 and P4 (the parking lot/rental car stations). Amtrak and NJ Transit service will not be affected.
- Beginning Monday, May 17, through December 2021, AirTrain Newark’s P2 station will be closed for construction of the consolidated rental car facility. While customers currently do not use this P2 AirTrain station, minimal passenger impact is expected and supplemental shuttle buses will be available if necessary.

PATH:
- The southwest entrance to the PATH Harrison station will be closed at all hours to accommodate demolition work ahead of a renovation of the station. During construction, riders will be required to use traffic signal pedestrian crossings at Angelo Cifelli Drive and Guyon Drive to access a corresponding station house on the opposite side of Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard.
- Customers who use the WTC PATH station during overnights should use the entrances at Fulton Street or Vesey Street via the North Concourse in the 2 World Trade Center Transit Lobby. Oculus access will be limited overnight from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for enhanced cleaning and the safety and security of customers due to reduced traffic volumes. - As a reminder, the 9 Street and 23 Street stations are closed from 11 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning for maintenance. Nearby PATH stations at Christopher Street, 14 Street and 33 Street remain open 24 hours a day unless otherwise noted.
