Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Bayonne City Council approved a contract for the second phase of the Broadway paving project at its meeting on March 19.  The contract was awarded to 4-CLEAN UP for an amount not to exceed $1,846,992.45.  Funding for the project was provided by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).  Mayor Davis said, “I would like to thank Governor Phil Murphy, NJDOT Commissioner Fran O’Connor, and our state legislators for supporting Bayonne’s paving program each year.  We will continue to make careful use of state and federal funding to resurface streets throughout Bayonne.”  

The first phase of the current Broadway paving project resurfaced Broadway from the City Line at 55th Street down to 41st Street. The second phase of the Broadway paving project will resurface Broadway between 41st Street and 19th Street.  Another portion of Phase II will pave Broadway between 10th Street and Evergreen Street.    

The project generally consists of the resurfacing and reconstruction of Broadway including but not limited to Hot Mix Asphalt milling and/or pavement repairs, installation of new concrete curbs adjacent to the curb ramps, sidewalk and curb ramps, installation of asphalt, storm/sanitary sewer structure improvements, and related work within the City of Bayonne.  City officials expect 4-CLEAN UP to begin working on handicap ramps in April.  That work will take six-to-eight weeks.  The ramps will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Paving is expected to take place in June.  

Paving project work will take place on weekdays only, beginning at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m.  The crews will mill and clear existing road surfaces before paving.   

As the paving project gets ready to start, signs will be posted at least 48 hours in advance to advise residents and motorists of the impact the work will have on parking and driving on the affected streets.
