New Public Safety Drone Donation

Posted March 13, 2024

Bayonne Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Junior Ferrante, along with Mayor Jimmy Davis and Fire Chief Keith Weaver met with representatives of the Bayonne Energy Center (Shawn Picard and Tom Miller), as well as Bayonne Police Captain Carlos Betancourth of the Guardian Foundation for a demonstration of a new Public Safety Drone.

Bayonne Energy, working with the Guardian Foundation, graciously donated the latest, most technologically advanced drone for Public Safety use.  This drone, which was recently put into service, has the ability to use thermal imaging to see “heat signatures” at night for people who would not be visible to the naked eye.  The drone also has an extremely powerful zoom camera, which gives the operator(s) the view of a scene without having to fly the drone too close to a dangerous situation.  Another feature allows the “livestream” of drone footage to police, fire, and EMS personnel directly to their smartphones.

Bayonne Energy has been a long-time supporter of Bayonne’s Public Safety Community with numerous donations over the years.  The Guardian Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, founded by Cpt Betancourth over eight years ago.

OEM Coordinator Ferrante and Mayor Davis expressed their gratitude, on behalf of the citizens of Bayonne, to both Bayonne Energy and the Guardian Foundation for their commitment to the safety of our residents.
