In Downtown Bayonne Zone 1, No Garbage Pick-Up on December 24 or December 31

Posted December 12, 2023

The Bayonne Department of Public Works announced that the regional garbage transfer station will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  As a result, people in Zone 1 (the downtown third of Bayonne) should not put out their garbage on either Sunday night, December 24, or Sunday night, December 31.  They should hold back their refuse until their next regularly scheduled pick-up days after Christmas and New Year’s Day, which would be Wednesday night, December 27, and Wednesday night, January 3.  Public Works Director Tom Cotter said, “The closing of the regional transfer station is for the observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation. The transfer station’s holiday closings were decided by that facility’s management, not by the City of Bayonne.”

Zone 1 extends from 1st Street to 16th Street.  Zone 1 also includes Trembley Court and Country Village Court.

The pick-up schedules in Zone 2 (midtown Bayonne) and Zone 3 (uptown Bayonne) are not affected by the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

With the exception of the effect on Zone 1, all regularly scheduled garbage and recycling pick-ups in Bayonne will remain in effect throughout the holiday season.
