Division of Recreation Launches Sneakers for Good Program to Raise Money for Special Needs Sports & Buddy Baseball League
Posted April 06, 2023The Division of Recreation is excited to announce they have teamed up with Sneakers 4 Good and are collecting gently worn, used and new athletic shoes to raise funds for our Special Needs Sports Program and Buddy Baseball League.
We will earn funds based on the total weight of sneakers and running shoes collected, then Sneakers4Funds will issue a check for the collected sneakers. Those dollars will benefit our program and athletes!
Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new athletic shoes at 16th Street Park, on Sunday, June 25th, 2023 from 10am to 1pm. (The Same day as the City Challenge Obstacle Course Challenge!)
Please note: Sneakers must be lightly worn/used. Sneakers with holes, tears, will not be accepted. We are only collecting Adult Size sneakers: sizes 6 and up.
"We are excited about recycling running shoes and helping others who are in need, as well as our participants in our special needs sports programs." said Pete Amadeo, Superintendent of Recreation.
All donated running shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Sneakers For Good network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Sneakers4Funds works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited.
By recycling gently worn, used and new athletic shoes to the Division of Recreation, the running shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.
