Division of Recreation Buddy Baseball to attend the Savannah Bananas Baseball game in August and host “Bayonne Goes Bananas for Buddy Baseball Day!”

The Division of Recreation is excited to announce they have 150 tickets to take our Special Needs Baseball League, Buddy Baseball, to see the Savannah Bananas in Staten Island, on Saturday, August 12, 2023!

The Savannah Bananas are a baseball team from Georgia who have become National News! They are not your typical baseball team! Eccentric rules are only part of the circus atmosphere. The first-base coach dances and the team celebrates home runs by racing into the stands for high-fives. When the Bananas are in the field, they might launch into a brief, choreographed routine between pitches, spinning and slide-stepping like the Four Tops in cleats, only to resume play as if nothing happened - LA TIMES.

Buddy Baseball is a program for developmentally and physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of baseball participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities.

Buddy Baseball has become one of the Divisions of Recreation’s top programs and a fan favorite here in Bayonne!

“Bayonne Goes Bananas for Buddy Baseball Day!”

Saturday, December 3rd, 2022, at 4pm at the BHS Ice Rink Gym

The Savannah Bananas have a great promotion - The world record for most Bananas peeled and eaten in 1 minute is 8.

If anyone can successfully peel and eat 9 full size Bananas in 1 min and get it on video, tickets are free!

The Division of Recreation is looking to find that one person who can beat this record, and help send Buddy Baseball to the game, free of charge!

If you think you can beat the record and eat 9 Bananas, email BAYONNEREC@AOL.COM! We will add you to the list of contestants looking to help send out Buddy Baseball athletes to the game, at no cost! Please email us with your name, address, and cell phone #.

SPONSORS! The Division of Recreation is looking for sponsors for the event and to sponsor a BANANA EATING CONTESTANT!

All sponsors and contestants will receive a FREE “Bayonne Goes Banana for Buddy Baseball” T-Shirt!

Checks to made payable to City of Bayonne.

Deadline for sponsors and contestants: Friday, Nov. 25th

If we cannot beat that record, we will be proud that we gave it our all for a great cause!

ALL PROCEEDS will go directly towards Buddy Baseball!
