Mayor Jimmy Davis and the Division of Recreation are excited to announce the start of Recreation Youth Boxing!

There will be an OPEN HOUSE and MEET and GREET, on Monday, April 4th, at 6:00pm, at 597 Broadway. 

The program will be open to Bayonne Residents only, boys and girls, ages 11 to 17. 

Recreation Youth Boxing will take place at Recreation Community Center at 597 Broadway.  The facility has a state-of-the-art boxing ring, equipment and much more. 

The program will be under the direction of Bobby Rooney. Bobby started boxing at the Bayonne PAL when he was 10 years-old under the guidance of his father, Bobby Rooney, Sr.  In 1987 he won the State Junior Olympic title at 118 lbs and finished with an amateur record of 21-5.

Bobby had overseen the Bayonne Police Athletic League’s Boxing Club for almost a decade, prior to taking over the Bayonne PAL program from his father in 2008. Bobby was a professional fighter and went pro in 2003, winning the WBF Continental Light Heavyweight Title in 2009, and finishing with a win-loss record of 12-3; 7 of his 12 victories were knock-outs, 4 of the victories against previously undefeated boxers.

The Program will begin in June.  Registration information will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
