Registration for the Inaugural Season of Spring Ice Hockey
Posted January 21, 2022The Division of Recreation Announces Registration for the Inaugural Season of Spring Ice Hockey.
The League is open to boys and girls, currently in grades 2nd through 8th Grade. Players will compete in live games with game introduction, instruction and strategy from the Bayonne High School Head Hockey Coach, Steve Plancey and Bayonne Native, Brandon Doria!
Spring Hockey will be Thursday Evenings, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Meet our Coaches!
Steve Plancey: A native of Point Pleasant, New Jersey and a graduate of Westfield State University, Steve Plancey begins his Seventh season coaching at the High School level with Bayonne High School. After playing for the New Jersey Rockets, at both the 16U AAA and Jr. B levels and participating in two National Tournaments, Steve went on to play for the championship winning Boston Bulldogs of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League. He then continued on to play two years of Canadian Tier II Jr. A for the Oswego Admirals of the OPJHL. In college while earning his B.A. in History, Steve played for Potsdam State University before transferring to Westfield State and playing in the MASCAC conference of NCAA Division III hockey. In 2018- 2019 he earned NJ.com Shore conference Coach of the Year.
Brandon Doria: Brandon Doria was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ. Freshman year he led his team in scoring and earned a varsity letter playing at Hudson Catholic. Sophomore year he transferred to Seton Hall Prep and over the next three years the Pirates won three League Titles, three Parochial State Titles, two Overall State Titles, and two Gordon Cups. Individually he won two Gordon Conference scoring titles, and was named the NJ Devils Player of the Year and the NJ High School Player of the Year in 1999. He ended his High School Career playing in 92 games, with 116 goals, 119 assists, totaling 235 points and averaging 2.55 ppg. After High School he went on to play Division I at Holy Cross tallying 139 points in 136 games, being named Offensive Player of the Year for the MAAC Conference his senior year in 2003. He was also a finalist in the Walter Brown Award, given to the best American born hockey player playing Division I College Hockey in New England. After college he played four years in the minor leagues, winning a Championship while playing with the Groningen Grizzlies in the Netherlands. In 2006, he was inducted into the Seton Hall Prep Hall of Fame. In 2014, he was inducted into the New Jersey High School Hockey Hall of Fame. After his playing career, Brandon coached the Varsity Millburn Hockey Team, winning 2 Kelly Cup Championships and being named Kelly Conference Coach of the Year in 2017.
THE FEE FOR THE YOUTH SPRING HOCKEY SEASON is $75.00/PER PLAYER (includes game jersey/socks). The fees collected will go towards the costs of running the program. The fee is non-refundable.

The deadline to register is Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
