Winter
Storm Warning
Please do
the following in the event of heavy snow:
1.
Please do not drive unless absolutely
necessary. If you must drive, drive
slowly. Watch out for children and other
vehicles. 2. Traffic lights may be put on
blinker. Proceed with caution through
intersections.
3. Do not double-park or
interfere with plowing.
4. If you have
questions or concerns about snow-plowing and other
snow related issues, call the Public Works Help
Line at 858-7181. Leave message and we will
retrieve it.
5. Please follow emergency parking rules
that will be announced for a snow emergency.
Follow the directions of emergency personnel on
the streets.
Plowing and Salting
The department of public works will salt the
streets before plowing them during any snow storm.
Please Shovel The Snow
Municipal ordinance 6-5 requires property
owners to remove ice and snow from the sidewalks
or to salt and and instead. Removal is
required unless the ice or snow is so frozen as to
make removal impractical. The ordinance
requires shoveling or either salting or sanding
within 24 hours of daylight after snowfall or ice
formation.
Snow Parking Advisory
In the event of snow, three special parking
policies would be in effect:
1. Alternate side of the street parking
and street-sweeping would be suspended.
2. Parking meters on the streets and in
lots would be free of charge.
3. Do NOT park in school parking lots
during a snowstorm. If there is snow, the
school system must clear the snow from the
schoolyards BEFORE the public is allowed to park
in them. Only then would schoolyards be open
again for overnight residential parking.
If there is no snow, all
normal parking rules would remain in effect.
Please check municipal
television, Channel 78 on Cablevision's Optimum
System, for updated announcements about the winter
storm. |
