MEET
THE MAYOR
Mark
Smith was born in Bayonne, New Jersey. The 4th son of
a Policeman and a Registered Nurse, he learned early
the value of family, friendship and service to
community. Mark and his brothers and sister grew up in
a modest home on West 26th Street full of love and
energy. He attended St. Henry's Grammar School and
Marist High School where he was elected by his peers
as their class president.
In 1983, Mark sat for and passed a competitive test
for the Bayonne Police Department. During his 25 year
+ career with the Bayonne Police Department, Mark rose
through the ranks from Patrolman to Deputy Chief. He
has received countless awards, citations and honors
for Valor and Bravery in the line of duty and he has
been recognized for his selfless service to the
community. While serving as a police officer, Mark
worked hard to complete his studies at Saint Peter's
College qualifying for a degree in Marketing and
Management. He went on to attend Seton Hall University
where he graduated with Honors with a Masters Degree
in Human Resources and Development. On November 4th,
2008 Mark Smith was elected to serve as mayor by the
residents of Bayonne.
Mark
Smith is an active member of numerous law enforcement
and community organizations where he works to make
Bayonne a better place to live. He is an active
parishioner of Saint Henry's R.C. Church where he
volunteers to teach catechism to young children.
Mark Smith is married to the former Patricia Carroll.
The couple resides in Bayonne along with
their two daughters. Smith is
inspired by his family to dedicate the rest of his
life to serving and improving the community that has
been so good to him. |
