Historical
Society Presents “One More Step Beyond”
The
Bayonne Historical Society will present a special program called “One
More Step Beyond” featuring local author Catherine McGrath Taylor
on Tuesday, October 11th, at 7 PM. Her topic of discussion will be,
"The Energy Connection," a link between the physical and
spiritual worlds. The program will be held in the O’Connor Gallery
on the second floor of the Bayonne Public Library. The public
is invited to attend the free event and refreshments will be served.
Catherine
McGrath Taylor is the author of two books “Essence of Lilacs” and
“No Rest for the Wicked,” which are psychic thrillers that deal
with both mystery and the paranormal. Taylor learned about the
topic from her maternal grandmother who appears in the books as the
character “Aunt Kate.” Her grandmother was a
psychic-clairvoyant like TV personality Lisa Williams.
Taylor
will share her own personal experiences and invite the public to
share their stories too at the meeting. One of Taylor’s
current projects is a study of paranormal events in Bayonne.
She has so often heard stories about strange, unexplainable things
that she decided to help the Bayonne Historical Society document what
has been happening.
If
your house or business location seems to be haunted, the society will
add you to its register of Paranormal Sites in Bayonne. Contact
society vice-president Gerard Nowicki evenings or weekends at
646-256-6607 or e-Mail the webmaster at
www.bayonnenj.org/historical.
In
other news, the society has recently added to its archives collection
several items of memorabilia and vintage Bayonne clothing from
resident Genevieve Sharkey including a vintage prom dress, a
hand-sewn 1940’s wedding dress, and a baptism outfit, which will be
on display October 11th.
The
society is happy to welcome anyone who would like to become a member
as the society starts year 21 of service to the community. Society
projects are being sponsored this year by donations from: McCabe
Ambulance Service, Paulanto Bakery, Robert’s Café, 7-Eleven
of West 8th
Street, Piccolino Restaurant, UNICO of Bayonne, John & Geraldine
Halecky, Richard & Regina Rutkowski, Barbara & Peter
Westergaard, Eleanor Tiefenwerth, Joseph Barbone, and Gerard

November 13 (Sunday) -- Celebration of the Bridge and the Bridgemen
Historical
Society Celebrates “Bayonne Bridge at 80!!!”
The
Bayonne Historical Society will present a special program to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the opening of
the Bayonne Bridge on the afternoon of Sunday, November 13th,
at St. Andrew’s School.
Activities will begin at
approximately 2:00 PM when society members will meet and greet
members of the Bayonne Bridgemen. In an exchange to be videotaped
for posterity, historians from the society will review the history of
the Bayonne Bridge and members of the legendary Bayonne Bridgemen
will review the history of their marching band.
The society will provide
a Bayonne Bridge birthday cake and other refreshments, and Veronica
Granite has been invited to help cut the cake. Just after 9/11, when
Ms. Granite was only 8 years old, she started a successful petition
drive to illuminate the Bayonne Bridge at night with the red, white,
and blue patriotic lights that now grace the beautiful steel arch.
From approximately 4:30
PM to 6:00 PM, musical entertainment will be provided by an ensemble
group from the Bayonne Bridgemen who will perform songs from their
current repertoire. This will recall the band that marched over the
bridge at the opening celebration on November 14th, 1931.
The entire event is free
and totally open to the public. Please join the society and the
Bayonne Bridgemen for a most memorable event.
The
society is happy to welcome anyone who would like to become a member
as the group begins its 21st
year of service to the community. Projects are being sponsored this
year by donations from: McCabe
Ambulance Service, Paulanto Bakery, Robert’s Café, 7-Eleven
of West 8th
Street, Piccolino Restaurant, UNICO of Bayonne, John & Geraldine
Halecky, Richard & Regina Rutkowski, Barbara & Peter
