Gary G. La Pelusa, Sr.
Third Ward Council Member

Gary La Pelusa, Sr. is the son of Marie (DeSantis) and John La Pelusa. His great-grandparents, Carmelo & Vida La Pelusa, were Sicilian immigrants and Grace (Rizzo) and Francesco DeSantis were also immigrants from Bari, Italy. His grandparents, Cecelia (Toscano), born in Brooklyn, NY, and Vito DeSantis, was an immigrant from Bari, Italy and Matilda (Eichenlaub), an immigrant from Poland and Salvatore La Pelusa all resided in Bayonne.

Gary graduated from Washington School and Marist High School. He was a National Honor Society Student while he attended Marist. Gary continued his education at Seton Hall University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications.

Since 1990, Gary has owned and operated, Gary La Pelusa Landscaping, a very successful Landscaping Company in Bayonne.

In June 2004, Gary was elected as a Democratic Committee Man for the 3rd Ward-1lth District. He was re-elected in June 2005 and 2006.

In May of 2006, Gary was elected as the Third Ward Councilman. Upon taking office on July 1,2006, Gary has been very dedicated to seeing that the concerns of the people are met throughout the community.

Gary served as a Legislative Aide to Assemblyman (D-31st District) Anthony Chiappone in 2005.

Gary La Pelusa, Sr. participates in a variety of activities throughout the Bayonne community. Since 2004, he has been instrumental in a toy drive that supports the Bayonne Community Cancer Support Group.

He is the Founder and Standard Bearer of the Gary La Pelusa Association, which was started in September 2005. The Gary La Pelusa Association is a civic, charitable, social and political organization that helps many needy groups.

A lifelong parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Bayonne, Gary is a lector and a teacher in their CCD Program. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma National Fraternity. Gary is a Third Degree member of the Star of the Sea Knights of Columbus in Bayonne. He was also a Board member of the Knights of Columbus as a Recorder in 2005.

Gary La Pelusa, Sr. is married to his wife, Cherie. They are the proud parents of Gary G. La Pelusa, Jr., David G. La Pelusa, and Jennifer A. La Pelusa. Gary has one brother, John, who resides in Pennsylvania with his wife and three children.
