Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has provided new information to the City of Bayonne about the Bayonne Bridge construction project.
At Piers N2 and N3, (south of 1st Street), foundations have been completed.
At Pier N4 (south of 1st Street), workers are erecting a pier cap.
At Pier N5 (south of 1st Street), the pier base is under construction.
A crane is working on assembling structures at Piers N2, N3, N4, N5, N6, and N7.
Work has taken place around Piers N6 and N7 (between 1st and 2nd Streets). The crane will be working, assembling piers. The Port Authority will be working in this area until December.
At Pier N8 (between 2nd Street and Gertrude Street behind Ideal Aluminum), pier erection is in progress with the crane.
At Pier N9 (between Gertrude Street and 3rd Street), the gantry will arrive at this point during the week of October 4.
At Pier N10 (south side of 3rd Street), the gantry will be in this area until the week of October 4.
At Pier N11 (north side of 3rd Street), the gantry is in operation at night (9:00 p.m.-5:00 a.m.). This will be in place for about three weeks.
At Pier N12 (between Juliette Street and 4th Street, Slootsky Park on the Juliette Street side), Pier N13 (between Juliette Street and 4th Street, Slootsky Park on the 4th Street side), and Pier N14 (Margaret Street), pier construction and roadway segment installation have been completed.
Pier N15 (abutment) is serving as the base of operations for the gantry. Pier construction and roadway segment installation have been completed.
Wall and Retention Basin: Construction continues on a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall and a retention basin on the Kennedy Boulevard side of the bridge at 6th Street. The MSE wall will be the same as the one constructed on 5th Street on the East side of the bridge.
Mechanical Electrical Building (Avenue A and 5th Street): Fire pumps are being installed.
Street closures: Streets and portions of various streets that run under the bridge will be closed temporarily. West 3rd Street will be closed until November 2015, which is longer than the closure originally announced. West 1st Street will be closed until December 2015. This is a change from a previously announced schedule. Gertrude Street will be closed until December 2015. While these sections of roadway are closed, no through traffic can travel under the bridge. However, vehicles can continue to enter from Kennedy Boulevard or Avenue A for local access only. No other streets will be closed while all three above streets are closed.
