Railroad Crossing Improvements Set for East 5th Street Connector

Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that railroad crossing improvements will be installed on or about Tuesday, July 22, at the East 5th Street Connector.  Mayor Davis said, “The existing railroad crossing is worn out.  The City of Bayonne has been requesting an upgrade for that crossing for many years. We are happy that new tracking and surfacing will be installed this month under the supervision of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).”

In order to facilitate construction, there will be a road closing at the 5th Street Connector and Ingham Avenue on Tuesday, July 22, and Wednesday, July 23.  The hours of that road closing will include the overnight period of July 22-23. The work will take approximately two days.  New precast concrete and rails will be installed at the crossing.  During construction, East 5th Street will be closed to most traffic between Lexington and Isabella Avenues.  Only local traffic will be allowed.   Longer distance traffic will be directed to Lexington Avenue, 5th Street, Kennedy Boulevard, and Route 440. Due to the closure at the 5th Street Connector and Ingham, northbound and southbound traffic on Route 440 will be detoured to the 22nd Street exit.
