Winter Weather Advisory from Mayor Mark A. Smith, Wednesday, January 22, 2014

While the snowfall has stopped, our employees continue to address the aftermath. We are still conducting snow plowing and salting operations, and we ask that you do not hamper these efforts by throwing snow into the streets.

Extremely cold temperatures are expected to continue for the rest of the week. Please keep warm, stay indoors, and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.

Our warming center at the Firehouse Recreation Center, 597 Broadway, will remain open through the night tonight. If you or someone you know needs to get out of the cold, you may go to 597 Broadway and stay the night. If you need transportation to the warming center, please contact the Bayonne Police Department at 201-858-6900 to make arrangements.

Public school yards will be available for parking from 6:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. every night through Monday morning. Schools will be open, so cars must be moved out of the school yards by 6:00 a.m.

Street-sweeping and parking meter enforcement are suspended until further notice.

Landlords are required to supply your apartment with heat. If your home or apartment has no heat or inadequate heat, please contact the Bayonne Police Department at 201-858-6900 to file a complaint.

Please look in on elderly or infirm neighbors, friends, and relatives. Please look after your pets, and do not leave them outdoors for extended periods of time.

For non-emergency assistance, please contact the Bayonne Police Department at 201-858-6900. As always, for emergencies, please dial 9-1-1.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Bayonne for your cooperation in our efforts to serve you.

Be careful and stay safe.
