Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that students at Bayonne High School are providing free beauty services to seniors. The students, who are in vocational classes, practice on the seniors while fulfilling required hours for their training. Mayor Smith said, “This program is a win-win for our community. The students get the real-world experience that will help them in the job market, and the seniors get beauty services, free of charge.”
This program is the result of a partnership by the Bayonne Board of Education, the Hudson County Schools of Technology, and the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF). Ana Quintela, the BEOF’s Executive Director, said, “The BEOF is happy to work with the public school systems of Bayonne and Hudson County to bring this great new service to Bayonne’s seniors.”
Space is limited. The service is available by reservation only on Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. when school is in session. The beauty program for seniors began on Thursday, December 5. The BEOF will provide transportation to and from Bayonne High School for the senior customers.
Seniors may make reservations and obtain tickets at any of three locations: 1) BEOF main office, 555 Kennedy Boulevard; 2) Nutrition Program, 535 Avenue A; 3) Nutrition Program, 16 West 4th Street.
