New Meeting Time Announced by Support Group in Bayonne for Victims of Domestic Violence

Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that a support group for victims of domestic violence will begin a new series of evening sessions in 2014. The group will meet Wednesdays at an unannounced location in Bayonne, beginning on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. The Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF) and Women Rising of Hudson County collaborate in this effort to bring confidential counseling to those who are affected by domestic violence. Ana Quintela, Executive Director of the BEOF, said, “By working together on this support group, Women Rising and the BEOF are sending the message to victims that you are not alone.” She continued, “If you are in need of finding resources, building self-esteem, developing healthy relationships, or obtaining emotional support, please call the BEOF at 201-437-7222, extension 23, for the meeting location and other information about the support group. Women Rising and the BEOF are ready to assist victims of domestic violence through this important local program.”
The BEOF is Bayonne’s community action agency. In addition to the support group, its activities include such services as Bayonne Head Start, weatherization programs, rental assistance, Meals on Wheels, and congregate meals for senior citizens.
Women Rising is the former YWCA of Hudson County. Along with domestic violence counseling, Women Rising offers programs in economic development, employment, social services, micro loans, and advocacy.
