BCB Community Bank has announced that it is sponsoring a food drive for the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF) at the bank’s Bayonne branches. The BEOF is Bayonne’s community action agency. This is BCB’s second food drive in conjunction with the BEOF. The drive will run through Saturday, November 30, and will benefit the BEOF’s food pantry. All six BCB bank branches located in Bayonne are drop-off sites. The branches are located at 181 Avenue A, 104-110 Avenue C, 508 Broadway, 611 Avenue C, 860 Broadway, and 987 Broadway. Employees from the BEOF dropped off boxes with signage at the branches, and will be picking up the filled boxes.
Mayor Mark A. Smith said, “I would like to commend BCB Community Bank for offering to help replenish the BEOF’s food pantry through this drive at its branches. As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving and the holiday season, I would ask Bayonne residents to remember our neighbors who are in need by supporting the food pantry drive.” BCB Vice President Catherine Laszkow said, “The BEOF has a seen a tremendous increase in the number of residents in the City of Bayonne coming to them for assistance. During these tough economic times, people are really struggling, and the need has become overwhelming. Unfortunately, the organization is anticipating an even greater number of people coming to the agency for assistance. The demand is greater than the supply, so the BEOF is relying on the generosity of the public to help those in need.” BEOF Executive Director Ana Quintela said, “I would like to thank the BCB Community Bank for sponsoring the food drive in its bank branches in Bayonne.” Quintela continued, “A food drive last month in Bayonne’s schools enabled families with students to help the BEOF and the other food pantries to fulfill our missions. The effort by BCB Community Bank will give people not connected with the schools an opportunity to feed the hungry this autumn. I would like to thank the community for its support.”
