Bayonne’s Paving Program to Start

Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that Bayonne’s 2013 paving program will start on or about Monday, October 14. The resurfacing project is expected to be completed by late November. The streets included in this year’s paving project are Trask Avenue from 2nd Street to 3rd Street; West 1st Street from Zabriskie Avenue to Humphreys Avenue; East 25th Street from Avenue F to Prospect Avenue; West 11th Street from Avenue A to Kennedy Boulevard; West 26th Street from Avenue C to Kennedy Boulevard; and Avenue C from 37th Street to 41st Street.
Mayor Smith said, “The City of Bayonne has included streets in various parts of town that need resurfacing. This includes a portion of the northern half of Avenue C, where PSE&G left a long rut during utility work completed many years ago. We have been focused on repairing Avenue C in stages over the last four years. We will continue applying for funding for Avenue C until the entire street has been redone.”
Signs will be posted in advance of paving on each street. The contractor will begin with concrete work, and will then mill and remove the existing surface. Following that, each street will be resurfaced. Striping, which involves painting news lines on the resurfaced streets, will be the last step. Work schedules for each street are subject to change, due to the weather and construction problems that may occur.
The 2013 paving project is funded by a combination of a grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation and a portion of the federal Community Development Block Grant. The total cost of the resurfacing work is $852,465.97. The Paving Contractor is Black Rock Enterprises, LLC. Straight Edge Striping and Statewide Striping will serve as sub-contractors.
Antonios Panagopolous, P.E. will serve as the engineer for the project. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact him at 201-858-7182.
Mayor Smith concluded, “We appreciate people’s patience during this temporary inconvenience as we make these important improvements.”
