Cooling Centers Opened, Pool Hours Added

Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that the City of Bayonne has opened three cooling centers during this week’s heat wave. Bayonne’s three senior centers will serve as cooling centers from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., from Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19. They are located at 16 West 4th street (near Broadway), 597 Broadway (near 27th street), and 329 Avenue B (at 56th street).
The Bayonne Public Library is air-conditioned and open to the public. The library is located at 31st Street and Avenue C. The library is open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through the Thursday. On Friday, the library will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Bayonne City Council Chambers are air-conditioned and will be open to the public this week during regular City Hall business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Council Chambers are located at City Hall between 27th Street and 28th Street on Avenue C.
The DiDomenico Pool at 16th street will be open for extended hours from 10:30 a.m. through 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 14, through Friday, July 19, weather permitting.
The Skutnick Pool at Lincoln Community School will be open evenings this week, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Lincoln Community School is located at East 30th Street and Prospect Avenue.
During the heat wave, please be sure to take the necessary precautions to avoid heat exhaustion. If possible, avoid going outdoors during the heat of the day, drink plenty of fluids, and don’t overexert yourself. Please take the time to check in on elderly or disabled friends and relatives to make sure they are all right. Please be sure that your pets receive enough water each day.
