Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that the Recycling Center located on Hook Road will be adding evening hours during the summer months. Effective immediately, the Recycling Center will be open, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., except holidays. Those hours will be in effect until further notice. Smith said, “During the warmer months, people generate more recyclable materials than during the rest of the year. Many people are off from school or work, and have the time to remove recyclable items from their homes. I urge everyone to take advantage of the extra hours at the recycling facility this summer. This would be a great time to recycle televisions, computers, and other electronic goods.”
Under new federal and state regulations, electronic items must be recycled, and cannot be picked up with garbage at curbside.
The recycling facility will be also open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the first weekend of every month except December, January, and February. The Recycling Center will be open for its next weekend hours on Saturday, July 7, and Sunday, July 8. The facility is located across the street from the municipal garage, which is located at 330 Hook Road.
The Recycling Center is open to residents of Bayonne. However, building contractors will not be permitted to drop off any construction debris. Acceptable recyclable materials at the site include cameras, computers, televisions, telephones, tires, cardboard, radios, computers, and most other electronics. The drop-off center also accepts mixed paper, cans, bottles, and scrap metal – the same items that residents usually put out for curbside pick-up.
Residents may drop off wood and tree parts at the facility. In return, the Recycling Center offers mulch and chopped wood to the public, whenever these items are available. Please bring your own containers for taking away mulch and chopped wood, because no containers are available at the site.
