Mayor Mark A. Smith has announced new weekend hours for the Recycling Center located on Hook Road. The facility will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the first weekend of every month except December, January, and February. The Recycling Center will be open on the following weekend (Saturday and Sunday) dates in 2012: April 7 and 8, May 5 and 6, June 2 and 3, July 7 and 8, August 4 and 5, September 1 and 2, October 6 and 7, and November 3 and 4.
These weekend hours are in addition to the regular weekday hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Mayor Smith said, “The weekend hours will help us serve the public better. Now that federal and state regulations require the recycling of electronic goods, we want people to use the extra hours to drop those items off. This will be the second year that the Recycling Center is open on Saturdays and Sundays. The new weekend hours are another example of my Administration’s policy of making government more accessible to the people. We will continue to move Bayonne forward.”
The Recycling Center is open to residents of Bayonne. However, building contractors will not be permitted to drop off any construction debris. Acceptable recyclable materials at the site include cameras, computers, televisions, telephones, tires, cardboard, radios, computers, and most other electronics. The drop-off center also accepts mixed paper, cans, bottles, and scrap metal – the same items that residents usually put out for curbside pick-up.
Residents may drop off wood and tree parts at the facility. In return, the Recycling Center offers mulch and chopped wood to the public, whenever these items are available. Please bring your own containers for taking away mulch and chopped wood, because no containers are available at the site.
