Mayor Mark A. Smith and Public Works Director Gary S. Chmielewski have announced new weekend hours for the Recycling Center located on Hook Road. The recycling facility will be open the first weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of every month, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., except in December, January, and February. The facility will be open on Saturday, August 6, and Sunday, August 7. These weekend hours are in addition to the regular weekday hours of 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Mayor Smith said, “The weekend hours are helping us serve the public better. Now that federal and state regulations require the recycling of electronic goods, we want people to use the extra hours to drop those items off. This will be the third month that the Recycling Center is open on Saturdays and Sundays. The new weekend hours are another example of my Administration’s policy of making government more accessible to the people. We will continue to move Bayonne forward.”
The Recycling Center is open to residents of Bayonne. However, building contractors will not be permitted to drop off any construction debris. Acceptable recyclable materials at the site include cameras, computers, televisions, telephones, tires, cardboard, radios, computers, and most other electronics. The drop-off center also accepts mixed paper, cans, bottles, and scrap metal – the same items that residents usually put out for curbside pick-up.
Residents may drop off wood and tree parts at the facility. In return, the Recycling Center offers mulch and chopped wood to the public, whenever these items are available. Please bring your own containers for taking away mulch and chopped wood, because no containers are available at the site.
