Mayor Mark A. Smith has appointed Iris M. Delgado as a Trustee of the Bayonne Board of Education. She replaces Matthew Klimansky, who resigned recently. Delgado, a self-employed businesswoman, owns IMD, a consulting firm. She has been working and organizing community outreach programs in New Jersey since 2008. Delgado is the first Hispanic woman to serve as a Trustee of the Bayonne Board of Education. Her term of office runs through May 15, 2012.
Mayor Smith said, “As a product of New Jersey public schools, Iris is capable of identifying students’ needs. She will support an environment in which all students can gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in higher education.”
Trustee Delgado is a first-generation American. Her mother emigrated from Chile, and her father came here from Peru. Delgado, a graduate of Cornell University, earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies, with a concentration in Latino Studies. She is a member of QUANDA, the Quill and Dagger Cornell University Society Alumni Network.
