Public Works Director Gary Chmielewski advised Bayonne residents that a new procedure for recycling freezers and refrigerators has gone into effect this summer in northern New Jersey. In order to have one of these appliances picked up for recycling from a residential address, you must call 1-877-270-3520 or sign up on-line. To see available dates and details for recycling refrigerators and freezers, go on-line to www.jacoinc.net. Scroll to the bottom left and insert Bayonne’s ZIP code, 07002, and follow the instructions.
The unit must be in working order and not be larger than 10 to 30 cubic feet. Someone 18 years or older must be present when the unit is picked up.
JACO is the company that works with PSE&G and other utilities to provide appliance recycling services in many areas of the country. When a Bayonne resident calls JACO, the company will provide you with a date when they are in the area, along with a four-hour window within which they will pick up the unit. A check in the amount of $50 will be mailed. This program is available only to residential customers of PSE&G in the Bayonne area. No businesses or houses of worship are eligible to participate in this particular recycling program.
